AI is remarkably good at building features. It's remarkably bad at building secure features.
After running penetration tests on dozens of AI-built applications, the patterns are clear. The same vulnerabilities show up again and again — not because the developers are careless, but because the AI assistants they used never raised the flag.
The Top Five Findings
Every pen test is different, but these five show up in nearly every AI-built app we audit:
- Broken authentication — session tokens that never expire, password reset flows that leak information, missing rate limiting on login endpoints
- SQL injection — the AI writes parameterized queries sometimes, and string concatenation other times
- Missing authorization checks — the API returns data for any user, not just the authenticated one
- Exposed secrets — API keys in client-side code, .env files committed to git, hardcoded credentials
- No input validation — whatever the user sends, the server trusts
Why AI Doesn't Catch This
AI coding assistants optimize for "does it work?" not "is it secure?" They'll build you a login form that functions perfectly — and stores passwords in plain text.
